How I used the Pomodoro technique to build a Pomodoro timer
When I first learned the Pomodoro Technique back in 2016, I was juggling a full workload alongside a programming refresher course. The idea was simple — 25 minutes of focused work, followed by a short break — but it made a huge difference. Breaking large goals into short sprints made work feel less overwhelming, and striking off each “Pomodoro” gave me momentum I hadn’t felt before.
Fast‑forward to today
After launching Kyupid, a productivity app used by thousands of couples to co-ordinate their daily lives, many of our users were asking for a simple, focused timer to help them stay on task without distractions — whether on solo projects, study sessions, or creative work.
So I thought: Why not bring the same technique that I had used successfully in the past, into a modern, lightweight app that anyone can use?
And that’s how Pommmo was born. There are plenty of great Pomodoro apps out there with animations, sounds, and playful touches. Pommmo is intentionally calm and minimal, while still offering advanced options for configuring focus and break timers.

Building Pommmo… with Pommmo
I went full meta.
One of my Apple Notes screenshots while building Pommmo shows my task breakdown: every feature, every bug fix, every design tweak — all listed out. Then I tackled them in Pomodoros.
Design the splash screen? One Pomodoro.
Build the home screen? Two Pomodoros.
Code the timer logic? Three Pomodoros.
Write the App Store copy? Two Pomodoros.
And yes — I even used Pommmo while building Pommmo! There’s something satisfying about watching your own app tick away while you’re coding its next feature.

Why it works
At its core, the Pomodoro Technique turns big, intimidating projects into a series of bite‑sized bursts of focused work. You don’t have to worry about finishing the whole thing — you only need to commit to the next 25 minutes. That rhythm makes focus feel more approachable and less daunting.
By the time I shipped the first version of Pommmo, I’d proven to myself (again) that this method works. And now, it’s out there for anyone who wants to focus, grow, and actually enjoy the process.
👉 Try a Pomodoro today with Pommmo—you’ll be amazed how much fun focus can be!
My very best,
